German honey cake.

Honigkuchen (honey cake) is a traditional cake in Germany. We made it with honey from Virginia’s dad’s bees.


150g soft butter
150g sugar
3 eggs
375g cake flour
12g baking powder
6g ground ginger
3g ground cinnamon
2g ground cloves
350g honey
100g milk

Cream together butter and sugar. Add the eggs, one at a time. In the meantime, sift together flour, baking powder, and spices. Add milk and honey into a large bowl and briefly microwave (about 30 seconds on medium) to soften the honey, then whisk together. Alternately add dry ingredients and honey/milk mixture to the batter. Fill batter into a Bundt pan.

Bake in preheated oven at 360ºF for 30 minutes, reduce temperature to 350ºF and bake for another 25-30 minutes.

Let cool and glace with sugar glace if desired. Serve with whipped cream.
